The winter evening edit

Dark afternoons and central heating call for a slower evening routine. Seven small steps, in the same order, from the end of the day to sleep.

Winter evenings ask for a different kind of routine. It is dark by late afternoon, the heating has been on all day, and by bedtime my skin feels it.

So this is the season when I slow the evening down. Nothing complicated and nothing that takes long. Just seven small steps, in the same order, that take me from the end of the day to bed.

Here is how it goes.

1. Cleanse: The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser. A balm that turns to oil in the hands and takes the day off gently.

2. Mist: Curél Deep Moisture Spray. Straight after cleansing, a fine spray of moisture before anything else goes on.

3. Serum: EYEAM Inflammaging Skin Solution. The one I really like right now.

4. Cream: rhode Barrier Butter. Thick and buttery, the blanket over everything underneath.

5. Hair: Silke London Hair Wrap. Silk around the hair before it meets the pillow.

6. Body: Neom Perfect Night’s Sleep Magnesium Body Butter. Smoothed on last, and the step that tells me the day is over.

7. Supplement: Wild Nutrition Food-Grown Vitamin D. The final thing before lights out.
